How Domo’s DTC Fulfillment Works

A seamless, compliance-first architecture that connects your ecommerce platform, compliance provider, and warehouse execution.

Flowchart showing approval and application process for Domo Wire Services & FORT Systems.

The Architecture Overview

A Clean, API-Driven Fulfillment Architecture

Domo Wine Services operates a modern, system-driven direct-to-consumer fulfillment architecture that connects your existing ecommerce platform and compliance provider directly to warehouse execution.

There are no spreadsheets, manual uploads, or disconnected handoffs. Orders move securely and automatically—only after they are fully validated and approved.

Ecommerce Platform (Upstream Control)

Your Ecommerce Platform Stays in Control

Orders originate inside your winery’s ecommerce platform—such as Commerce7, Offset, or Shopify—where all customer, payment, tax, and state rule logic lives.

Key Functions Handled Upstream:

  • Order placement
  • Customer data management
  • Wine club rules and payments
  • State eligibility rules
  • Tax calculation
  • Compliance validation

Only approved, compliant orders are ever released downstream to fulfillment.

Compliance Provider Integration

Compliance Is Enforced Before Fulfillment Begins

Domo integrates cleanly with your existing compliance provider—such as VinoShipper, Avalara, or ShipCompliant. There is no requirement to change compliance vendors.

Compliance Controls Include:

  • Permit verification
  • State shipping rules enforcement
  • Tax calculation and validation
  • Restricted state blocking

Compliance is validated before any warehouse activity occurs, ensuring only eligible shipments move forward.

Secure API Integration

Secure API Order Transmission

Once an order is approved, it is transmitted via secure API directly into Domo’s warehouse execution environment.

This eliminates:

  • Manual uploads
  • Duplicate data entry
  • Fulfillment errors caused by disconnected systems

Orders flow cleanly, accurately, and in real time.

Standard Order Flow:

  • Order placed in ecommerce system
  • Payment, tax, and compliance validated
  • Approved order sent to Domo via API
  • Inventory reserved in real time
  • Warehouse execution begins

Warehouse Execution With FORT WMS

Warehouse Execution Powered by FORT Systems

Domo Wine Services uses FORT Systems as its warehouse execution platform to manage all physical fulfillment operations.

FORT is responsible for:

  • Case- and bottle-level inventory tracking
  • Warehouse location and lot control
  • Barcode-driven pick, pack, and ship workflows
  • Carrier label generation (UPS / FedEx)
  • Adult signature enforcement
  • Shipment confirmation and reporting

FORT executes only approved orders and does not alter pricing, tax, or compliance logic.

Shipping & Carrier Fulfillment

Shipping, Labeling & Carrier Fulfillment

Once picked and packed, shipments are labeled and routed through optimized carrier workflows with compliance controls applied automatically.

Carrier Execution Includes:

  • Carrier selection and label generation
  • Adult signature requirements where applicable
  • Address validation prior to shipment
  • Tracking confirmation returned to ecommerce platform

This ensures fast, accurate delivery while maintaining regulatory safeguards.

Notifications & Communication

Automated Notifications at Every Stage

Automated notifications keep both customers and internal teams informed throughout the shipment lifecycle.

Customer Notifications:

  • Shipment confirmation with tracking
  • Delivery attempts
  • Address correction alerts
  • Return-to-sender notifications

Internal Team Notifications:

  • Shipment summaries
  • Address issues and intercept alerts
  • Failed delivery notifications
  • Exception reporting for proactive outreach

All notifications are logged and traceable.

Inventory Visibility & Reporting

Full Transparency & Audit-Ready Reporting

Wineries are provided direct access to FORT for complete operational transparency—often exceeding the visibility of in-house fulfillment operations.

Reporting & Visibility Includes:

  • Live inventory visibility (case & bottle level)
  • Inventory movements and allocations
  • Shipment history and tracking
  • Daily, weekly, and custom reports
  • Time-stamped audit logs and execution records

Compliance Responsibility & Risk Control

Compliance Control Remains With the Winery

Outsourcing fulfillment to Domo does not transfer regulatory responsibility. It standardizes execution, reduces operational risk, and strengthens audit readiness.

Key Safeguards:

  • No change to existing compliance provider
  • State restrictions enforced upstream
  • Adult signature requirements applied
  • Time-stamped warehouse records retained

Winery maintains full compliance control.

Transition & Onboarding

Structured, Low-Risk Onboarding

Domo onboarding follows a controlled, step-by-step process designed to minimize disruption.

Onboarding Includes:

  • SKU and inventory validation
  • Coordinated inbound inventory transfer
  • Optional parallel testing
  • Defined cutover timeline
  • Dedicated operations support

IT and compliance teams are included to ensure alignment and confidence.
